Not all hair oils are created equal. We break down which actives penetrate the shaft versus which just sit on top.
The hair care market is flooded with oils, but most do not penetrate the hair shaft at all. They simply coat the surface — which can look good temporarily but does nothing for long-term health.
Penetrating Oils
Only a handful of oils can actually enter the hair cortex. Argan oil and marula oil — both key actives in our Midnight Oil Treatment — are among the best studied. They reduce protein loss during washing and improve elasticity over time.
Sealing Oils
Oils like coconut and castor sit on the cuticle. They are useful for sealing in moisture after a deep treatment, but should not be confused with true hair repair.
How to Use Oils Correctly
Apply penetrating oils to damp hair before styling. Apply sealing oils to dry hair to lock in moisture and add shine. Never apply any oil directly to your scalp if you are prone to oiliness or follicle buildup.
